Papuan Religious Leaders Advise, Don’t Be Incited by December 14
Jayapura City- December 14, 2023 is considered by some people from the West Melanesian group as the anniversary of Melanesia, as a celebration for groups that are still at odds with the Republic of Indonesia must be anticipated, this was conveyed by Rev. Jones Wenda as a religious figure from the Kingmi Church.
Furthermore, Jones said, at present, in general the situation in Papua is still conducive, community activities are also running smoothly and hopefully this security situation will be maintained until Christmas arrives, with the hopes and prayers of all of us the land of Papua will always be peaceful.
“As a religious leader, I appeal to all people not to be provoked by the issue of melanesian day on December 14, 2021,” he added.
This activity was created by certain groups to worsen the peaceful atmosphere in Papua, we all know that this December moment is a holy moment for Christians in welcoming Christmas 2023, he said.
More firmly Jones said, Do not be easily instigated by the issue of an independent Papua Papua, now is the time for us to work and develop ourselves, the incitement only makes the Papuan people and the next generation left behind because the hope of an independent Papua is irrelevant to current conditions.
“Let us think of building this Papua better in the context of NKRI and as God’s people we keep the peace in this peaceful land of Papua with love,” explained Jones.
December is the month of peace, together we join hands to celebrate Christmas and New Year, do not believe in misleading issues that can harm ourselves and others, said Rev. Jones Wenda.
