JAYAPURA – Papuan community figure, Yonas A. Nussy, regrets the violence that occurred in the midst of the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival (FBLB) in Jayawijaya Regency causing civilians to become victims.

When met at his residence in the Hamadi Lembah area, South Jayapura District, Jayapura City, Wednesday (8/12/2026), Yonas said that people should be able to participate in cultural activities and carry out daily activities without fear.

“I am very sorry for this incident. People should not continue to be victims,” said Yonas.

According to Yonas, the security forces need to immediately uncover the incident and handle the responsible party in accordance with the provisions of the law. He hopes that this step can provide certainty as well as prevent the occurrence of similar violent acts.

“Society needs a sense of security to carry out daily activities. Therefore, I hope the perpetrator will be revealed soon and processed in accordance with the law,” he said.

Ahead of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Yonas invites the public, especially in Jayawijaya, to stay calm and not be easily provoked by information or situations that can make things worse.

“Don’t be tempted. Let’s keep our security together so that we can welcome August 17 safely,” he said.

He also invited the public to welcome the momentum of independence with the spirit of unity, one of which is through the installation of the Red and White flag in their respective neighborhoods.

Yonas also expressed his appreciation to the personnel of the Cartenz-2026 Peace Operation Task Force who continued to carry out their duties in a number of Papuan regions in maintaining security and providing protection to the community.

“I appreciate the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force that is on duty in the regions. My hope is that the public can feel safe and the activities can run well,” he said.

He hopes that the handling of the violent party can be carried out professionally and measuredly, while still prioritizing the safety of civil society.

“The most important thing is, the community should no longer be a victim. Security must be maintained so that residents can work, do activities, and live their daily lives calmly,” Yonas concluded.
