Joint Forces Conduct Search After KKB Again Spreads Terror in Puncak Regency

Jayapura – Security in Puncak Regency, Central Papua, was again disturbed by the actions of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) which burned Honai in Kunga Village, Ilaga District, and the SMPN 1 Gome Building, Friday (10/11).

Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom, Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, revealed the incident after receiving a report from the Puncak Police Chief, Commissioner I Nyoman Punia, S.Sos who was in the field.

The incident started at around 17.15 WIT, when the SMPN 1 Gome building was reported to be on fire, followed by red flares being shot 10 times from three different directions.

“A few minutes later, from a distance of around 400 meters, shots were heard aiming at the Preparatory Kodim Post, allegedly carried out by the KKB. “Security personnel then fired back, causing the group to flee towards Kunga Village,” he said.

At 20.45 WIT, the latest report stated that one Honai had also become a victim of arson, strongly suspected to have been carried out by the same group.

Commissioner Benny emphasized that the joint forces in Puncak Regency are trying to handle this situation, while increasing the level of security to prevent further incidents following the action.

“The Joint Forces are carrying out further searches and investigations to identify the perpetrators behind this series of incidents,” he added.

This situation shows the ongoing escalation of security disturbances in the Puncak area, Central Papua and the authorities continue to struggle to deal with the KKB threat in order to maintain peace and security in the area.
