Intellectual Figures and Papuan Traditional Figures Respond to Tomorrow’s Action in Jayapura
Jayapura – Facing the ULMWP Group which provides support for intellectual figures and traditional leaders as well as Papuan youth, they agreed to hold discussions to answer the actions that will be carried out by the independent Papuan activist group.
West Papua/IPWP International Parliament Meeting in the British Parliament on 18 October 2023.
In this action, there is a plan for a free pulpit action/demonstration which will be carried out by the United Liberation Movement For West Papua (ULMWP) to provide support for the activities of the International Parliamentary Meeting of West Papua (IPWP) in the British Parliament on 18 October 2023, which will be attended by Benny Wenda .
In support of the IPWP meeting at the British Parliament, the ULMWP group spread calls for peaceful demonstrations throughout the Papua region from Sabang to Merauke which were spread via social media.
The call for action will be made on October 17 2023, namely holding demonstrations, consolidations, free platforms and demonstrations, which raise the issue of human rights violations in Papua, encouraging Benny Wenda to ask the High Commissioner of the UN Human Rights Council to visit Papua, and urge the Government RI to open access to the UN Human Rights Council.
Facing this problem, Intellectual Figures and Traditional Leaders as well as Papuan Youth agreed to hold discussions to answer the actions that would be carried out by independent Papuan activist groups.
The Discussion Forum was held with several Papuan intellectuals and traditional figures to provide understanding to the public targeting the Papuan people, Free Papua sympathizers/activists and netizens with the aim of minimizing the mass movement that would take part in the action on the streets.
Figures in Papua conveyed six points regarding the demonstration action plan voiced by the United Liberation Movement For West Papua (ULMWP) to provide support for the activities of the International West Papua Parliament (IPWP) meeting at the British Parliament on 18 October 2023, which was attended by Benny Wanda. According to Papuan youth leader, Max Abner Ohee, what the ULMWP group did was wrong and did not represent the aspirations of the Papuan people.
“Papua is Indonesia. This is legal and final as stated in UN Resolution No. 25/24, that West Irian was now Papua and West Papua is legally part of the Republic of Indonesia, cannot be contested and it is impossible for the resolution to be replaced, so “All efforts made by groups that are in conflict with the Republic of Indonesia are only for the interests of a few people, and do not represent the aspirations of the Papuan people,” said Max, Monday (16/10/2023).
Yanto Eluay added that as a result of the UN Human Rights Council’s decision, Indonesia ranks highest, so it is clear that Indonesia really pays attention to human rights in Papua. Efforts to fight for an independent Papua by the ULMWP will always be in vain and will never be successful. “Issues of human rights violations in Papua are propaganda played by the ULMWP group and its sympathizers to deceive the Papuan people in general,” said Yanto Eluay who is Ondofolo.
According to him, ULMWP and its sympathizers, both abroad and at home, have their own interests, not the Papuan people, so the Papuan people should not be provoked into taking part in actions that could harm themselves and others. Meanwhile, one of the traditional leaders from Keerom “, Herman Yoku invites all parties to participate in educating the young generation of Papua through Government policy programs for a better future, because ULMWP does not have a vision and mission to develop Papuan people, but rather destroys Papuan society itself.” “To all Papuan people, let’s always protect the Republic of Indonesia for the survival of our children and grandchildren,” said Herman.
