Jayapura – Papua, an enchanting region with natural and cultural riches, has attracted attention over the last few years due to the activities of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) which disturb the peace.
In an effort to overcome this challenge, the Indonesian Government initiated Operation Peace Cartenz 2024, with a focus on law enforcement against KKB in Papua.
Apart from the efforts of law enforcement officials, the Papuan people firmly condemn the criminal groups that hide behind the name of the Papuan People, realizing the negative impact they have. The acts of violence, hostage-taking and threats carried out by this group not only harm the government, but also create uncertainty and fear among society.
The Papuan people realize that the existence of the KKB hinders positive development and creates an environment that is not conducive to daily life.
One of the Papuan community leaders, Yonas Alfons Nusy, firmly stated that what the KKB was doing was not a struggle, but a criminal act that violated human rights (HAM).
He considered killings, taking hostages and burning government facilities as criminal acts that could not be justified. In his view, these actions have no moral basis or justifiable purpose.
“For example, the murder of Michelle Kurisi Doga, a Papuan woman,” said Nusy.
Nusy stated bluntly that the KKB not only committed crimes, but also spread lies. “The struggle claimed by this group has no real results, but is just an unproductive act of rebellion,” he continued.
By describing this group as liars, Nusy hopes that the Papuan people will not be provoked by the actions carried out by this group.
“Papuan leaders and community figures played a key role in expressing rejection of the KKB. They emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation to overcome common threats. “This firm statement from leaders and community figures reflects the determination to create a Papua that is peaceful, prosperous and empowered,” he said.
In facing the challenges of the KKB, the hope of the Papuan people lies in collaboration between the government, community leaders and local residents. They hope to create a safe, inclusive and stable environment, where every citizen can contribute to the progress of their region.
“The vote against the KKB is a reflection of the Papuan people’s determination to achieve a better future,” added Nussy.
With their strong rejection of the KKB, the Papuan people are united to create a Papua that is peaceful, prosperous and full of hope. Steps towards sustainable peace become the basis for achieving common goals, where cultural diversity becomes a strength, not a vulnerability.
