Jayapura – Kapolda Papua Irjen Pol Mathius Fakhiri acknowledged that the KKB location where the Susi Air pilot was held hostage was in a very difficult area to reach.
“KKB leader Egianus Kogoya also frequently moved hostage locations in the Nduga and Lanny Jaya areas, so it was difficult for members to approach the location, especially since the KKB always guarded hostages,” he said in Jayapura, Monday (7/8).
Kapolda Inspector General Pol Fakhiri said the effort to free the hostages still prioritized negotiations by giving information to community leaders, religion and family members to approach Egianus so they would release the hostages safely.
Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Merthens has been held hostage since February 7, shortly after landing his plane in Paro, Nduga Regency, Papua Mountains.
From the information received, it was revealed that the Nduga Regent official had met with Egianus, but the results of the discussion are still awaiting information.
“We are still waiting for further information regarding the talks that were held with the Egianus group,” said Irien Pol Fahiri.
Fakhiri hopes that Egianus will immediately release the hostages in good health and safety.
“Negotiations can be carried out, but the most important thing is not asking for independence and weapons or ammunition,” emphasized the Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Fakhiri.
