Timika, Central Papua – The Mimika Regency Government, through the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR), is advancing strategic infrastructure projects in 2026, including the construction of roads and bridges across coastal and mountainous areas.
Inosensius Yoga Pribadi, Head of PUPR Mimika, said the projects reflect the local government’s commitment to developing Papua from rural villages toward the city center.
“We are building in coastal areas, starting from Kampung Potowaiburu in West Mimika to the Agimuga District,” Yoga said on Saturday in Timika.
The road construction will target Kampung Potowaiburu in Mimika Barat Jauh District, Kampung Kapiraya in Mimika Barat Tengah District, and several routes in Agimuga District.
“These roads aim to facilitate connectivity for residents to transport agricultural, fishery, and plantation products to be sold in Timika City,” Yoga explained.
Improved transportation access is expected to stimulate economic growth in both coastal and inland communities of Mimika, which are rich in natural resources, including agriculture, fisheries, and plantations.
“Coastal and peripheral areas will be developed with infrastructure tailored to their needs, particularly to connect inland regions to Timika,” he added.
In addition, PUPR Mimika will construct a clean water facility in Kampung Ipaya, Amar District, using Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology to convert brackish water into safe drinking water.
The office is also set to build a 115-meter suspension bridge in Kampung Mioko, Mimika Tengah District, this year.
“Mountainous areas will also receive suspension bridges, as communities there are in urgent need of such infrastructure,” Yoga emphasized.
These initiatives are expected to strengthen connectivity, improve residents’ welfare, and mark tangible progress in Papua’s development, linking rural communities more closely with the urban center.
