Jayapura – The spirit of welcoming the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia began to be felt in various corners of Jayapura City. The Papua Regional Police (Polda) invited the public to join the momentum of independence by distributing Red and White flags to drivers who passed in front of the old Papua Police Headquarters, Jayapura.

As many as 300 sheets of Red and White flags were distributed by Papua Regional Police personnel to the community. The flag was then installed on the vehicle as a symbol of pride as well as a form of community participation in welcoming the Indonesian independence anniversary.

Head of Public Relations of Papua Regional Police, Kombes Pol. Cahyo Sukarnito, said that the distribution of flags is part of the effort to build a national atmosphere ahead of the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

“This activity aims to enliven the momentum of independence by setting up and raising the Red and White Flag. We want to invite the public to take part in celebrating independence day,” said Cahyo in Jayapura, Wednesday.

According to him, the flags distributed to drivers are expected to be installed on their respective vehicles so that the nuance of independence is more visible in the public space of Jayapura City. In addition to being a symbol of the country, the Red and White flag is also expected to strengthen the sense of unity and love of the people towards the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Cahyo said that the activity is also a means to invite the people in Papua to interpret independence through simple actions that can be done together.

“We invite all the people in Papua to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia with enthusiasm and joy. One of them is by putting up and waving the Red and White flag in their homes, vehicles, and places of business,” he said.

He added that the spirit of independence belongs to all Indonesian people regardless of background. Therefore, the momentum of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia is expected to be an opportunity to strengthen the togetherness and unity of the community in Papua.

The distribution of flags to drivers also shows that the anniversary of independence can be celebrated through various simple activities that involve the community directly. With the increasing number of vehicles and public spaces decorated in Red and White, the Papua Regional Police hopes that the national atmosphere and spirit of welcoming the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia will be felt in the community.

The Papua Regional Police invites the public to not only raise the flag during the independence commemoration momentum, but also make the Red and White spirit a symbol of unity, solidarity, and joint commitment in maintaining security and building the Land of Papua.
