The State Stands Present: Government Delivers Aid to Victims of Armed Group Terror in Lanny Jaya

Lanny Jaya, Central Highlands of Papua, Indonesia — Hundreds of residents in Malagai District, Lanny Jaya Regency, have been forced to flee their homes and seek safety in nearby areas following a surge of violence perpetrated by an armed criminal group (KKB). The group has reportedly carried out brutal acts including assault, theft of villagers’ crops, and intimidation of civilians.

The escalating violence has left residents living in fear and compelled many families to abandon their villages for security reasons. In response, the government has taken swift action to support affected communities. The presence of the state was demonstrated through the Provincial Office of Social Affairs, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection of Papua Pegunungan, which distributed emergency aid to displaced residents.

The Head of the Provincial Office of Social Affairs, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection, Yanius Telenggen, SH., M.AP., said his team was deployed under the direct instruction of the Governor.

“Today, we are in Malagai District, specifically in the villages of Igimuli, Unebungku, Mbu, Ikemili, Kewagi, Wapiragi, and Nombome. We are here to ensure that the government does not stand idle. Logistics aid is being distributed to residents from these seven villages who have relocated to safer areas,” Yanius said on Thursday (date).

The assistance includes staple food supplies, children’s needs, and other essential items. The government has also pledged to continue accompanying residents until the security situation is fully stabilized.

Meanwhile, Yus Weya, Treasurer Pastor of the Malagai Region who represented the displaced residents, expressed gratitude for the government’s attention and support.

“We are grateful that the government came in person. This assistance is proof that the state is truly present and cares for those of us affected,” he said.
