Brigpol Iqbal Anwar Arif’s Body Released in Elelim, Yalimo Police Chief Expresses Condolences

Yalimo, Papua – Yalimo Police Chief, Commissioner Joni Samonsabra, S.H., M.H., led the procession of releasing the body of Brigpol (Posthumous) Iqbal Anwar Arif, S.H., at Elelim Airport, Yalimo Regency, Saturday morning (18/1/2025).
The procession was carried out before the departure of the body to Jayapura City.
Brigpol (Posthumous) Iqbal Anwar Arif, S.H., was a member of Ba Provos Yon B Men III Pasukan Pelopor who served in the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force (ODC) 2025. The deceased died on duty after being shot while carrying out a security operation in Yalimo Regency, Friday afternoon (17/1/2025).
Despite receiving medical treatment at the Elelim Health Center, the deceased was pronounced dead at 17:35 WIT. This tragic event left deep sorrow, both for the extended Polri family and the local community who knew the deceased’s devotion and dedication.
The farewell procession began with a final tribute ceremony attended by the extended family of the Yalimo Police, main officials, police personnel, and a number of members of the community. An atmosphere of sorrow enveloped the procession, depicting a deep sense of loss.
In his remarks, the Yalimo Police Chief expressed his deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and gave his appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice shown by Brigpol Iqbal while on duty.
“We have lost one of the best soldiers who has shown high dedication in carrying out state duties. We pray that the deceased will be given the best place in the sight of God Almighty, and that the family left behind will be given strength and fortitude,” said Kompol Joni Samonsabra.
Brigpol Iqbal’s body was flown from Elelim Airport by plane to Jayapura City. From there, the body will be flown to the deceased’s hometown for burial.
The passing of Brigpol Iqbal Anwar Arif, S.H., was a heavy blow to the extended Polri family. Not only that, the Yalimo community who felt the dedication and services of the deceased while on duty also felt a deep loss.
This farewell procession is a symbol of respect and appreciation for the sacrifice of the deceased in carrying out his duties to maintain security and peace in Papua.
