Firm! Chief of the Tribe in Papua Urges Youtefa Market Arsonists to Return to Their Hometowns

Papua – In response to a series of arson incidents in the Abepura District, Jayapura City, Ondoafi Besar Skouw Yambe, Abisai Rollo, strongly urges the Police to promptly apprehend the individuals or perpetrators involved in the arson that occurred at several locations in the Abepura District, Jayapura City, on Sunday (7/1/2024).

“I emphasize that the perpetrators must be legally processed, and they should be apprehended immediately. Do not let them act again or create chaos in Jayapura City,” stated Abisai Rollo as reported by ceposonline.com.

According to him, this action is not only to instill a deterrent effect on the perpetrators but also as a preventive measure to avoid a recurrence of similar incidents.

“We hope that they are returned to their hometowns as part of the imposed sanctions. They should not continue to reside here after committing criminal acts,” he asserted.

Rollo emphasizes that Jayapura City is a home for everyone, and those residing there are expected to be part of a community that behaves well and loves its environment.

“We hope that residents in Jayapura City can live peacefully and refrain from actions that harm their living environment,” he said.

The Chairman of the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) of Jayapura also emphasizes the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the identities and masterminds behind this arson incident.

“For the benefit of Jayapura City, we will identify the perpetrators and anyone behind this incident. We want this city to be inhabited only by those who love it,” concluded Rollo.

It is worth noting that the series of fire incidents in Abepura yesterday is strongly suspected to be intentional, in other words, there are individuals who deliberately ignited the fires.

This was disclosed by the Chief of Jayapura City Police Resort, Commissioner Pol. Dr. Victor D. Mackbon, S.H., S.IK., M.H., M.Si during an interview. The Chief of Police explained that initial information came in around 05:30 WIT that there had been a fire around Hotel Bunga Youtefa, which later escalated to 4 locations, including inside Youtefa Market specifically at the dismantled stalls.
