Jayapura – Omukia Health Center construction workers who were victims of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) attack in Puncak Regency, Central Papua, were evacuated to Timika. The evacuation process was carried out this morning, Friday (20/10/2023), at AVCO Mozes Kilangin Airport, Timika, Mimika Regency.
The Head of Papua Police Public Relations also informed that the Cartenz 2023 Peace Operation Task Force together with the joint TNI Task Force are currently still increasing security at the location to anticipate the possibility of a follow-up incident.
“Currently, security forces in Puncak Regency are increasing security in vulnerable areas to prevent similar incidents and conduct further investigations to arrest the perpetrators involved in the attack,” concluded the Head of Public Relations.
For information, the attack began when the workers of PT Gloria Papua Permai who were building the Omukia Health Center in Eromaga Village, Omukia District were resting in a tent.
“The victims were suddenly approached by nine KKB members from the direction of the Eromaga Bridge who then attacked them using sharp weapons and arrows. As a result of the attack, one worker was killed, while three others were seriously injured,” said Benny.
Head of Papua Police Public Relations, Kombes Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom, provided information regarding the evacuation process. According to him, the evacuation process of one body and three injured victims from PT Gloria Papua Permai was also accompanied by the family.
“The evacuation was carried out using two Reven aircraft, namely PK-RVE piloted by Capt. Gabril Mirkurius, and PK-RVV piloted by Capt. Putri Ghasani,” he said.
Kombes Benny said, the body of the deceased Otto (35) was immediately taken to Mimika Regional Hospital for the recovery process, while the other three injured victims namely Elifas (29), Martinus (37), and Erwin (52) were taken to Mimika Regency RSMM for further medical treatment.
“The bodies are planned to be laid to rest at the funeral home. And the funeral process is still awaiting agreement from the family,” said Benny.
