Jayapura – Susi Air pilot Captain Philips Mark Mehrtens is still being held hostage by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya.
Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Mathius D. Fahiri said that the TNI and Polri are still trying to take steps to release the pilot and do not want this release to have an impact on the security situation in the Papua region.
“We are trying our best to get pilots alive and well. We need to be careful and don’t want our steps to hurt other communities, causing new victims,” said the Inspector General of Police. Mathius D. Faakhiri, Monday (7/8) afternoon.
He said, if the steps taken have an impact on the people of Papua, it could also affect the safety of Captain Philips.
“Yes, maybe later it will have an impact on pilots, this is our main concern,” said Fahiri.
Until now, the government, TNI and Polri, said Fahiri, have continued to seek sources to help negotiate so that the Susi Air Pilot is safe without causing new problems.
In addition, approaches to families, community leaders and religious leaders continue to be made with the aim of saving the pilot.
He claimed that through the Nduga Regional Government, he had made efforts to negotiate with the Egianus Kogoya group. They are waiting for the results.
“We are of course waiting for the results of the negotiations, we don’t want to be in a hurry and we don’t want to take the same law enforcement steps that could put pilots and other people at risk. Because it could be that the actions of the Indonesian National Police, which may be excessive, have an impact on society,” he concluded.
