Jayapura – The Yahukimo Police are investigating a case of persecution that led to the death of a resident named Matthew Ropa on Jalan Statistik Dekai, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains.
Head of Public Relations Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo explained that the incident was discovered at around 11.15 WIT by personnel via HT.
Ignatius said that the personnel informed that there was a citizen who was a victim of persecution, the personnel quickly shifted to the TKP.
“When the personnel were on their way to the TKP, they received information that the victim had been taken to the Dekai Hospital by a witness, RM (47),” said Ignatius in his statement on Thursday 3 August 2023.
Meanwhile, Yahukimo Police Chief AKBP Arief Kristanto said that seven wounds were found on the victim’s body caused by a sharp object.
At that time, the victim was immediately evacuated, but when he arrived at the hospital his condition was very critical and his life could not be saved.
“When personnel arrived at the crime scene, the perpetrator was nowhere to be found. Therefore, they are conducting a search and processing of the crime scene (TKP) to find out the chronology of events in more depth,” said Arief.
Furthermore, in the process of investigating the TKP, personnel found several pieces of evidence including a machete blade without a handle, a black bayonet sheath, and an Ando brand sandal, black and green with bloodstains.
Then a piece of wood, a black shirt with red and white patterns and bloodstains, a black training pants, and a black men’s underwear.
“Furthermore, witnesses will be examined to provide clearer information about the incident. In addition, a Police Report (LP) has also been made and reported to the leadership,” he said.
Arief said that his party would continue the investigation by gathering information from witnesses who knew the identity of the perpetrator.
He said that his party would also coordinate with the Public Prosecutor (JPU) to ensure that the legal process proceeded according to procedure.
