Jayapura- In response to the peaceful demonstration plan to support the full membership of the United Liberation Movement West Papua (ULMWP) in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) which will be held on Wednesday, a number of Tabi community leaders spoke up.
These community leaders firmly rejected the call for the demonstration because it was considered to disrupt community activities in Jayapura Regency and Jayapura City.
“Demo is not the culture of the Tabi people, if there is a problem, let’s sit together and solve it in the traditional leaders because demonstrations can end up harming the community. Those who feel they are disadvantaged talk to traditional leaders who own this land and country,” said Ondofolo Sosiri, Boas Enock when giving a statement to the media crew in Sentani on Tuesday (11/7) afternoon.
“Those of you who come to live on the land of Khenambai Umbay and Port Numbay must respect the people who own the land, don’t act stupidly. We community leaders always respect anyone who comes and lives here, so respect us too,” he pleaded.
“We hope we respect each other because we are all the same. Don’t do something here that harms other people,” he added.
In the same place, Ondofolo Putali, Neles Monim, said that people in Jayapura Regency and Jayapura City are heterogeneous people so they must respect each other. Do not make demonstrations that harm other communities.
“The people in Tabi land are a heterogeneous society of various tribes. So don’t hold demonstrations that harm other communities. We should help each other and build the region,” he said.
He considered, currently the local government is focusing on working to develop the region, so there should be no actions that hinder development and harm other people.
“For people who will carry out demonstrations tomorrow, don’t do things like that here because the government is temporarily focused on working to develop the region. Do not make actions that will harm others,” he said.
“Let us unite our determination to help the government. Any aspirations are done honorably and we both maintain order and do not harm others,” he added.
Meanwhile, Youth Activist, Emond Karuway also invited youth friends not to get involved with things that harm themselves and harm others.
“I appeal to young friends and students who are temporarily studying in Jayapura City not to be used and involved in things that harm themselves,” he said.
Emond assessed that the demonstrations carried out would not have a good impact. the reason is that demonstrations are often infiltrated and lead to actions that disturb the security and public order in Jayapura City.
“To young friends, don’t want to be used. Let’s keep the land of Papua as a common home,” he said.
