PAPUA – Papuan community leaders and traditional leaders assess that the movement of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) by committing violence has clearly harmed many parties.
The traditional leader of the Kamoro Tribe, Mimika, Marianus Magnaiteko is really concerned about the KKB movement. According to him, there needs to be family approaches, both through adat and the church.
“But in terms of violence, I don’t think it’s human beings, our KKB brothers are human beings, members of the TNI-Polri are human beings, the workforce is human beings. We are very concerned that this should not be treated.
“We indigenous people really show why? How wonderful it is that Mr. Jokowi pays special attention to how to build good infrastructure from city to village and there are people who mess things up,” said Marianus in Mimika, Central Papua, Tuesday (7/3/2023).
Meanwhile, the Head of the Damal Tribe, Mimika Regency, Yulius Hagabal said that even though they are of different ethnicities from the people in Nduga Regency, the problem is quite big for the Land of Papua. He also asked the Damal Tribe not to be affected by what happened in Nduga.
“I would like to convey and at the same time invite the Damal tribe who inhabit the land of Papua not to be influenced by irresponsible elements, in this case fighting beyond their calling, we are also called, whoever he is is called to maintain law and order. I underline that civil society, especially in Mimika Regency, hopes that we will maintain mutual security, the integrity of security stability, guard the ongoing construction,” he stressed.
In line with Marianus and Yulius, Mimika Regency youth leaders, Agustinus Anggaiba saw that it was not justified for the KKB led by Egianus Kogoya to commit violence. He himself wants Papua to be safe and needs development. “We are youth leaders so that we put forward the humanity of the Egianus group. Papua needs development, not killing and chaos,” he said while ensuring that Papua is part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Intellectual Leader of Mimikan and Puncak Regencies, Yonias Kula, said that the overall condition of Pupua was actually safe. However, Yonias said that in 2022 and 2023 there will be many violent incidents by the Egianus group and the latest is the hostage-taking of the Susi Air pilot. Local communities in Nduga, Puncak and Intan Jaya can return to their activities. “If they are not returned, many people will flee here (Mimika), Nabire and Jayapura,” he said.
He also appealed to youth in Papua not to be easily provoked, even though there are pros and cons with the KKB group. “Don’t get caught up in useless things, it’s better not to have to, if possible the community, especially our high school and junior high school juniors, can easily join Mr. Egianus and his group,” said Yonias.
