Jayapura – The Youth Forum for the Homeland (Forum Pemuda Peduli Tanah Air) is calling on Papuan youth to use the momentum of the Republic of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day anniversary as a springboard to rise up, create, and play an active role in the development of both the region and the nation.
Teddi Ayom, Deputy Chairman of the Youth Forum for the Homeland, stated in Jayapura on Friday (August 21) that the younger generation holds a strategic position in shaping Papua’s future; therefore, the spirit of independence should not be limited to mere ceremonial activities.
“The younger generation must be part of the development process. This moment serves as a milestone for a resurgence—to keep creating and to drive progress for Papua and Indonesia,” he said.
According to Teddi, Papuan youth need to develop their potential and creativity by producing positive work and making tangible contributions to society. This is considered crucial so that young people do not merely become beneficiaries of development but also step up as active participants in the development process.
He also encouraged young people to strengthen the spirit of unity, maintain togetherness, and leverage technological advancements and creative platforms to generate innovations that benefit the region.
Teddi believes that Papua’s development requires the involvement of all segments of society, including the youth. Consequently, he urged young people to fill the independence era with productive activities, enhance their personal capabilities, and help maintain a safe and conducive social environment.
He hopes the 81st Independence Day commemoration will serve as a moment to bolster the optimism of Papuan youth regarding the future. Papuan youth, he noted, must have the courage to seize opportunities, develop their skills, and demonstrate their ability to contribute to the region’s progress.
“We must embody the spirit of independence through tangible work and contributions to Papua and Indonesia,” Teddi said.
