Dekai, Highland Papua – A joint team comprising the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force and the Yahukimo Resort Police is currently investigating and pursuing the perpetrator of a severe assault involving a sharp weapon. The incident targeted a resident named Adit (40) in the Jalan Sosial area, Kali Bonto Complex, Dekai City, Yahukimo Regency, on Thursday night (August 20, 2026).
The Head of the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 Public Relations Task Force, Senior Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., stated during a media interview on Saturday (August 22) that the incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at approximately 19:15 WIT, while the area around Kali Bonto was experiencing a power outage. The victim sustained a laceration to the neck and has been evacuated to Dekai Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for medical treatment.
“The perpetrator fled immediately after the incident. Upon receiving the information, the joint team from the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force and the Yahukimo Resort Police responded by visiting the scene and initiating investigative measures. These included gathering witness statements and collecting any potential evidence remaining at the crime scene,” said the Head of the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 Public Relations Task Force.
Based on preliminary information, a witness located on an upper floor heard the victim shouting for help. The witness then went downstairs and found the victim lying on the dining table.
The victim managed to tell the witness that the perpetrator had fled toward the church. The witness then sought help from other residents to transport the victim to Dekai Regional General Hospital for medical care.
Senior Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., added that officers have currently obtained a description of the perpetrator. Based on preliminary investigation findings, the perpetrator is suspected to be a member of the KKB (Armed Criminal Group) Kodap XVI Yahukimo, Yalenang Battalion, led by Kombi Yemberengge. However, this suspicion is still being investigated to confirm the identity and involvement of the responsible party.
Medical reports indicate that as of Friday night (August 21, 2026), the victim is conscious and showing signs of recovery after receiving treatment at Dekai Regional General Hospital (RSUD).
“Thankfully, the victim is conscious, and the wounds have been properly treated. They remain under medical care at the hospital,” he added.
Furthermore, the Operation Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force, in collaboration with the Yahukimo Resort Police, continues to analyze witness statements and gathered information to fully reconstruct the sequence of events and locate the perpetrator.
The Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Inspector General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, stated that the investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrator.
“Personnel have responded to the incident and initiated investigative measures. We are continuing to gather information and witness statements to identify those responsible for this incident,” said the Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026.
The case is being handled in a measured manner and in accordance with applicable legal procedures. Authorities are also coordinating with regional units to ensure that all information obtained is acted upon to help solve the case.
