The inspirational story comes from Yosea Mirin, a young man from the interior of Papua who succeeded in pursuing higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree from Universitas Dinamika (Undika) Surabaya. He became one of the graduates in the 55th Graduation of Undika.
Yosea is a graduate of the Computer Engineering S1 Study Program, and is one of the students from the Eastern Indonesia region, precisely from Kampung Ila, Korupun District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua. Yosea’s journey to a bachelor’s degree was not easy, he grew up in a remote area with all the limited access to transportation, education, and technology.
“I come from a small village called Ila. There, we live a simple life and depend on produce such as sweet potatoes, keladi, vegetables, and fruits. However, I always believe that education can change the future,” said Yosea when met after graduation.
Since childhood, Yosea has shown a high spirit of learning. With the support of his family and encouragement from the teachers in his village, he dared to migrate to Surabaya to pursue higher education at Undika. In the midst of adapting to a new environment that was far different, Yosea continued to struggle until she finally managed to finish her studies.
Now, after officially holding a bachelor’s degree, Yosea is determined to return to Papua to contribute to the development of his region, especially in the field of technology and community digitalization.
“I want to go home and build. There are many potentials in Papua that can be developed if we have good access to technology. I want to help open new opportunities for the people there,” he said enthusiastically.
According to him, the knowledge and experience he gained during college was not only for himself, but also became a moral responsibility to bring positive changes to his hometown.
“I came home not only with a diploma, but also hope. The hope is that the children in my village believe that they can also be like me, even more,” said Yosea.
The story of Yosea becomes a real reflection that passion, hard work, and education can pave the way for anyone, regardless of where they come from. From the interior of Papua, Yosea proved that big dreams can grow in a simple place as long as there is a determination to fight for it.
