Jayapura – Prominent Islamic leader from Papua, Thaha Al-Hamid, has issued an important appeal to the people of Papua to maintain peace and public order (Kamtibmas) following the Christmas and New Year celebrations on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
In his statement, Thaha emphasized the importance of fostering interfaith harmony and avoiding actions that could disrupt social stability.
“We have just experienced joyful moments during Christmas and New Year. These occasions are opportunities to strengthen togetherness and nurture new hope. However, we also bear the responsibility of maintaining security and order within our diverse society,” said Thaha Al-Hamid.
He urged the public not to be easily provoked by unverified information that could threaten social harmony. Additionally, Thaha called on all community members to steer clear of negative behaviors such as alcohol consumption, brawls, and other unlawful acts.
“Papua is a land rich in diversity. Let us live together peacefully and respectfully. The role of families is also crucial as the first line of defense to protect our younger generation from negative influences,” he added.
Thaha also expressed his hope for law enforcement and government officials to carry out their duties with wisdom and fairness, employing approaches that foster a conducive atmosphere for all.
In closing, Thaha Al-Hamid encouraged all Papuans to pray for their land to be continually blessed with peace, harmony, and prosperity.
This appeal has been positively received by various segments of society, who view it as a valuable guide for maintaining security and social harmony in Papua.
