Jayapura- Michele Kurisi Doga is a female activist who is quite active in voicing the rights of Papuan women. Michele was several times a resource person in live programs on Youtube with issues about Papua.
Michele Kurisi Doga was known to have been killed by a group of people on August 28, 2023 in Upper Koloak District, Lanny Jaya Regency.
Michele was killed by the perpetrators by being stabbed with a knife and hit on the head using wood. This action was recorded directly by the perpetrators and disseminated through their social media channels (Facebook). The video of Michele Kurisi Doga’s murder was then widely circulated on social media and went viral.
The viral video shows the victim Michele Kurisi initially being interrogated by the perpetrators and not long after the victim is seen dying in the bushes with blood pouring out of the victim’s chest shirt.
“This murder is sadistic and cruel. How can several men kill a woman, be videoed and viralized,” said Head of Operation Peace Cartenz 2023 Kombes Pol Dr. Faizal Ramadhani S.Sos, S.I.K, MH when met by the media crew in Jayapura, Saturday (7/10/2023).
“On Thursday, October 5, 2023, we have arrested a suspected perpetrator of Michele’s murder with the initials PM in Jayawijaya, then the next day we developed and arrested the suspected perpetrator AW in Jayapura and RK alias RM in Tolikara. The total number of perpetrators is estimated to be seven people, “said Kombes Faizal.
Akbp Dr. Bayu Suseno, SH, SIK, MH also added that from the results of the temporary investigation, this premeditated murder case was allegedly committed by seven perpetrators with the initials PM, AW, RK, KW (DPO), JW (DPO), DW (DPO) and K (DPO).
“The seven suspected perpetrators are allegedly members of the West Baliem Militant KNPB who actively spread negative propaganda on social media on the Papua issue.” Bayu said.
Currently the three suspected perpetrators are secured at the Papua Police to undergo further investigation.
“Against the suspects we will at least apply Article 338 of the Criminal Code on murder as well as Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder as well as Article 354 of the Criminal Code on persecution resulting in the death of another person, with a maximum threat of the Death Penalty or Life Imprisonment,” concluded Bayu.
