Papua – Chairman of the Papuan People’s Information Barn or LIRA Papua said that with various brutal and heinous actions and the hostage-taking of Susi Air pilot Philips Mehrtens which has been going on for more than one month, the Papuan Armed Criminal Group (KKB) can be categorized as the source of security problems in Papua.
This was conveyed by Steve Mara when interviewed regarding the hostage-taking of Susi Air Pilot Philips Mehrtens who until now has not been released by KKB and security conditions in the Papua region which always get terror from KKB, in Papua Thursday 23/3/2023.
“By looking at the various actions carried out by the Papua KKB, such as the hostage taking they did, then attacks on civilians, burning government buildings, school facilities and health facilities, I think I can categorize them as a group that always makes trouble in the province of Papua.
No matter how good the rules made by the provincial and central governments, no matter how good the policies we want to take, no matter how good the theory of peace we want to apply in Papua, but when groups that do not provide security to the community still exist, then during that time Papua cannot be developed properly and there will be no equitable development in Papua Province, “explained Steve Mara.
The Chairman of LIRA Papua Province added that the hostage-taking by the KKB could create a negative stigma against the Papuan people and make Papua’s good name bad in front of the international community, especially the government and people of New Zealand.
“In my view, the KKB group committed a very heinous act, and this action was very embarrassing, and gave a negative stigma to Papuans, especially from the New Zealand government, the people of New Zealand to Papuans that we Papuans are bad people who have no humanity. . The reason is, it has been more than a month since the New Zealand pilot was taken hostage and only his photos were distributed wearing inappropriate clothing, shorts, short sleeves, and sleeping in the middle of the forest. This is a shameful act committed by an armed criminal group,” said Steve Mara.
In addition, Steve Mara assessed that all the brutal and heinous acts committed by KST Papua have caused tremendous unrest because people feel afraid when they want to do their daily activities.
With the various brutal and heinous actions carried out by the KKB, the attacks and killings of civilians, I think this makes people uneasy, especially in some areas where this group is present. Then, with the presence of this group in these areas, it makes people afraid to leave the house for activities, some even have to flee to several other districts and cities, and even have to run to the forest for fear of this group, thus making the Papuan people unsafe, said the chairman of LIRA Papua Province.
Steve Mara hopes that KKB will immediately be followed up firmly so that the Papuan people feel safe and can carry out their daily activities calmly.
