Papua – Papuans are urged to maintain security, order, and unity in Papua. This appeal was issued following the actions of the West Papua National Committee (KNPB).

“We urge the public to maintain brotherhood, respect differences of opinion, and not be easily provoked by unverified information,” said Ondofolo Yanto Eluay, Chairman of the Presidium of the Sons and Daughters of the Pepera Fighters (P5) Papua, in a written statement on Monday, August 3, 2026.

This appeal was issued to ensure the situation in Papua remains conducive ahead of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day. The son of Pepera figure Theys Hio Eluay urged the public, especially residents of Jayapura City and the surrounding areas, to continue their normal activities and not be easily influenced by information or invitations that could potentially disrupt public order and security (kamtibmas).

According to Yanto Eluay, every citizen has the right to express their opinion in accordance with applicable laws. However, he hopes all parties will prioritize peaceful methods and consider the impact on the wider community.

“Let’s work together to maintain a safe and conducive situation for the benefit of the entire community,” said Yanto.

He assessed that actions that have the potential to disrupt traffic flow or public activities could have a direct impact on people’s lives, especially traders, MSMEs, public transportation drivers, daily workers, and other economic sectors that depend on their daily activities for income.

Furthermore, Yanto Eluay urged all elements of society to continue strengthening the spirit of mutual cooperation, tolerance, and mutual respect as the main assets in maintaining security and supporting development in Papua.

“We must direct our energy and minds to work and improve the economy of the Papuan people. We must not engage in activities that could disrupt community activities or harm many people,” said Yanto Eluay.

He also urged the public, particularly in the Tabi, Sentani, and Jayapura City areas, to refrain from participating in activities that could potentially disrupt community activities or the economy. According to him, the community needs a safe situation so they can work, trade, and fulfill their daily needs without disruption.

The entire community is invited to make the series of commemorations of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia a momentum to strengthen unity, maintain harmony, and jointly support the creation of a safe, peaceful, and prosperous Papua within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
