Timika – Chairman of the Merah Putih Barisan Republik Indonesia (BMP-RI) Mimika Regency, Panius Kogoya, condemned the murder of three civilians in Yahukimo Regency.
He expressed his deep concern over the incident and invited all Papuan people to maintain peace and support law enforcement to protect civilians.
In his statement, on Saturday (25/7), Panius Kogoya admitted that he was very disappointed with the shooting that killed civilians in Yahukimo. According to him, acts of violence against people who are not involved in the conflict cannot be justified for any reason.
“I, Panius Kogoya as the Head of the Red and White Front of the Republic of Indonesia (BMP-RI) Timika Regency, conveyed the problem that occurred in Yahukimo on July 20, 2026, as the Head of BMP-RI, I was very disappointed with the shooting of innocent and innocent civilians,” he said.
He also appealed to parties who are still carrying out violent actions to stop actions that actually cause suffering for the Papuan people themselves.
“Humans need to live the same life, but if they commit violent acts for unclear reasons, I as the Chairman of BMP-RI convey that the victim who was killed was my brother, the same clan as me, and I feel very very disappointed about the incident. What was done is not right, being arrested and killed by shooting is a heinous act,” he said.
According to Panius, the incident not only left grief for the victim’s family, but also hurt the human values and the lives of the Papuan people who want a safe and peaceful situation.
He expressed his support for the steps of the security apparatus in investigating the case so that the perpetrator could be processed in accordance with the applicable law.
“I ask the central government, the local government with the TNI-Polri security duties to strongly support the pursuit of the shooting perpetrators,” he said.
Besides that, Panius also expressed his appreciation to the officers who had helped the evacuation process of the victim’s body so that the family could be sure about his family members.
“I also thank the TNI-Polri for saving the body of my family who was shot. We, the big family, express our disappointment to the perpetrators who are also Papuans who killed Papuans. This is not true and very bad. Religion prohibits killing people carelessly,” he said.
In addition, he hopes that the presence of security forces in areas that are considered vulnerable can provide a sense of security for the community so that they can return to carrying out their daily activities without fear.
“In Yahukimo, I also suggest that a security post be established by the TNI-Polri so that people feel safe to find food and work safely,” he said.
At the end of his presentation, Panius Kogoya expressed his gratitude to the security forces, especially the Cartenz-2026 Peace Operation Task Force, who continued to carry out the task of serving and maintaining the security of the community in various areas of Papua.
“I also thank the Cartenz Peace Task Force wherever they are on duty and provide services. God and nature of Papua always protect their every step of service,” said Panius.
He hopes that the security situation in Papua will be more conducive so that people can carry out their activities, work, and earn a living safely, and all elements of the community will continue to maintain unity and reject all forms of violence against civilians.
