Jayapura – Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri emphasized that Pancasila is an important foundation for maintaining unity and diversity in Papua, which consists of various ethnicities, religions, languages, and cultures.

This was conveyed after leading the 2026 Pancasila Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony at the Papua Governor’s Office on Tuesday (June 2, 2026).

According to Fakhiri, the nation’s founders established Pancasila as the foundation of the state, capable of uniting the various differences that exist in Indonesia.

“The Indonesian nation consists of many ethnicities, religions, languages, and cultures. Pancasila is the glue that unites all of this diversity,” he said.

He said the values contained in Pancasila remain relevant today, especially in maintaining unity and building a harmonious community life.

He continued, saying that in Papua, Pancasila holds great significance because the people live in a highly diverse society. Therefore, the spirit of tolerance and togetherness must be continuously maintained.

“Papua is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious region. Therefore, tolerance must be maintained to ensure that community life remains harmonious and peaceful,” he said.

In addition to maintaining unity, the Governor also emphasized the importance of providing justice in development. He asked all regional heads and village officials to ensure that every government program benefits the community.

“I always ask that the entire community be involved in development and feel its benefits. No one should be a mere spectator,” he said.

Fakhiri hopes that the commemoration of Pancasila Day will not be merely a ceremonial event, but rather a reminder for all levels of government to continue prioritizing unity, deliberation, and justice in serving the community.
