Jayapura – The Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) has urged all residents of Papua not to be provoked by rumors promoted by certain groups. This appeal concerns the planned demonstration on May 1, 2026.

Deputy Speaker II of the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP), Max Ohee, stated that May 1st marks the return of West Irian (Papua) to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

“The current progress of development in Papua is evidence of the government’s concern for the people of Papua,” he said, as reported by Antara, Thursday, April 30, 2026.

He cannot imagine Papua not being part of the Republic of Indonesia. According to him, such a situation would raise questions about whether the people would still be able to live normally.

“We hope that through the momentum of Integration Day, which is commemorated by the Papuan people every May 1st, the government can pay more attention to the welfare of the people through the policies it takes,” he said.

He explained that the regional government must focus on community-centered care. This is achieved through policies that truly address community needs.

“We also urge all residents, especially the youth in this region, to be pillars of calm amidst the evolving social dynamics,” he said.

He hopes that every issue can be resolved through constructive dialogue.
