In his directive, the Central Papua Police Chief emphasized the importance of solidarity, discipline, and professionalism of all police officers in carrying out their duties. He also emphasized that the presence of leaders among members demonstrates the institution’s commitment to responding to the dynamic security situation in Dogiyai Regency.

Central Papua Regional Police Chief, Brigadier General Jermias Rontini, emphasized that the legal process related to the violence in Dogiyai Regency, Central Papua, will be carried out transparently and impartially, both against civilians and officers found guilty of violations.

“We ensure there will be no tolerance for anyone who violates the regulations. The legal process will proceed to court,” said the Regional Police Chief during a meeting with local government officials, legislators, and community leaders in Dogiyai on Thursday.

He explained that the main purpose of the police presence in Dogiyai is to restore a conducive atmosphere in the area following the incident that resulted in casualties among both civilians and officers.

He never instructed the shooting of civilians; every action taken by police officers must be firm and measured.

Therefore, the Central Papua Regional Police are open to dialogue and are committed to communicating developments in the case handling openly to the public.

“We publicly apologize if any actions by police officers have been displeasing to the public,” he said.

To expedite the case’s handling, the Regional Police Chief appointed Senior Commissioner of Police Denis A. Putra as Acting Chief of the Dogiyai Police. The officer was given six months to complete the case, with support from the National Police Headquarters.

In addition to law enforcement, the Regional Police Chief also highlighted the importance of human resource development, particularly in education. He targeted each district to have adequate elementary schools and improve the welfare of educators.

Meanwhile, Dogiyai Regent Yudas Tebai requested that cases involving officers be immediately and transparently disclosed.

“What we sow is what we shall reap. We hope all parties will act responsibly,” he said.

He also urged all elements of society to maintain a conducive situation and avoid anarchic actions. The local government has resolved the road blockade issue through a family approach with local youth.

The Central Papua Regional Police will continue to coordinate with the local government and community leaders to ensure the security situation in Dogiyai is stable and conducive again.
