NABIRE – Central Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Jermias Rontini, urged the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Nabire Regency to expand its nutrition fulfillment program by targeting pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers. This appeal was delivered during his visit to SPPG Kitchen 003 Siriwini, Nabire, on Monday.

The Central Papua Police continue to pay attention to the implementation of the Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) program in Central Papua, particularly in Nabire Regency. Police Chief Rontini emphasized the importance of registering potential beneficiaries from group 3B so they can be included in the nutrition service program.

He also reminded SPPG managers to maintain kitchen cleanliness and ensure operations comply with National Nutrition Agency (BGN) standards. “The distribution mechanism and building of each SPPG must comply with BGN standards,” he said.

Currently, the SPPG 003 Siriwini Kitchen serves approximately 2,000 beneficiaries, the majority of whom are schoolchildren. Therefore, good operational standards are essential to ensure maximum impact for beneficiaries while improving the nutritional quality of the community.

Chief of Police Jermias Rontini’s visit also aimed to inspect the SPPG’s condition following reports of suspected food poisoning in Nabire. The Regional Coordinator of the National Food Security Agency (BGN) for Central Papua, Marsel Asyerem, revealed that several people had reported symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, and dizziness after consuming food from the MBG program.

Preliminary reports indicate that 23 people experienced these symptoms, most of whom were family members of beneficiaries. MBG wet food should be consumed directly at school and should not be taken home due to the potential for deterioration in quality.

They are currently receiving treatment at several health facilities in Nabire. Some of them have been diagnosed with typhus by local clinics.
