JAYAPURA – The hope of the Papuan people to get the convenience of transportation during Eid 2026’s homecoming has finally been answered. The central government through the Ministry of Transportation officially established a free sea ticket program for the intra-Papuan route during the Eid Transportation period of 1447 Hijriah.

The policy was determined by the Directorate General of Maritime Transportation (Ditjen Hubla) through Decree Number KP-DJPL 106 of 2026 regarding the Implementation of Sea Transportation for the Free Ticket Program during Sea Transportation Eid 2026.

Governor of Papua, Matthew D. Fakhiri, through the Acting Head of the Papuan Transportation Service, Mathius Wally, said that this program is a form of government concern for the needs of the community that relies on sea transportation as the main means of interregional mobility.

“According to the request of the Governor of Papua, the free homecoming service for intra-Papuan Eid transportation has been determined by the Ministry of Transportation,” said Mathius Wally in Jayapura City, Wednesday (3/4/2026).

From the perspective of public service, this policy is seen as a strategic step to ensure the smooth flow of homecoming as well as increasing transportation accessibility for coastal and island communities. Sea transportation has been the backbone of interregional connectivity in Papua, especially for residents who live in areas that have not been optimally reached by land transportation.

This free ticket program is also expected to reduce the surge in travel costs during the homecoming season, so that people can celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families without being burdened with high transportation costs.

The Papua Provincial Government stated that it was ready to fully support the implementation of the program through cross-agency coordination as well as socialization to the community regarding the schedule, route, and free ticket registration mechanism.

With this policy, the flow of Eid 2026 homecoming in Papua is expected to run more orderly, safely, and evenly, as well as strengthening the government’s commitment in providing inclusive and fair transportation services for the entire community.
