Wow! Singgang Ayam Fetches IDR 7.3 Million at IKM Jayapura City Halal Bihalal

Jayapura – A unique and memorable moment unfolded during the Halal Bihalal event held by the Minangkabau Family Association (IKM) of Jayapura City on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Djoeragan Dapur Jembatan Merah. The spotlight was on a beloved Minangkabau dish—singgang ayam—which was auctioned off and astonishingly sold for IDR 7,350,000 (approx. USD 460)!
Singgang ayam is a traditional dish from West Sumatra prepared in two stages: a whole chicken is simmered in a rich blend of spices and coconut milk until tender, then briefly grilled to achieve a golden, slightly crispy skin. Its spicy, aromatic flavor makes it a favorite at Minangkabau traditional ceremonies and large family gatherings.
At the IKM Halal Bihalal in Jayapura, singgang ayam was used as a fundraising item to support IKM’s ongoing social and cultural initiatives. The auction started at IDR 200,000 and gradually climbed to IDR 300,000, IDR 400,000, and so on—ultimately reaching a stunning IDR 7,350,000.
The enthusiastic bidding reflected the strong spirit of solidarity and kinship within the Minangkabau community in the diaspora. The prized dish was finally won by Uda Buyung, who received it directly from the IKM Jayapura Chairman, Ir. Iman Juaniawal, M.M.
This singgang ayam auction was more than just a fundraising effort—it symbolized the deep love and commitment to preserving Minangkabau cultural traditions far from home. It stood out as one of the most unforgettable highlights of this year’s IKM Halal Bihalal celebration.
