Dekai, Yahukimo – The Tribal Chief of Seradala, Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Tenny Anosanov, has called on the local government to temporarily halt gold mining activities in the region to ensure public safety.
Tenny made this statement during a press briefing in Dekai, Yahukimo Regency, on Monday, April 14, 2025. He explained that Seradala District is home to four tribes: Kopkaka, Korowai, Bese, and Momuna. In these tribal areas, illegal gold mining activities have been ongoing and recently became the site of an attack by an armed criminal group (KKB), resulting in fatalities.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Ops Damai Cartenz 2025 Task Force and the joint TNI-Polri forces for successfully evacuating the victims’ bodies from the mining site. The entire process went smoothly,” he said.
In his statement, Tenny emphasized that the regional government must ensure that the security situation in Yahukimo is fully under control before allowing mining operations to resume.
“This is important to prevent further loss of life like what has just happened,” he added.
