“Two Unknown Gunmen Shoot Polsek Kurima Officer: Aipda Syam Receiving Treatment”

Yahukimo – A member of Polsek Kurima, Yahukimo, Papua Pegunungan, sustained gunshot wounds on Saturday night (February 1st) after allegedly being attacked by two unidentified individuals (OTK). The victim, Aipda Syam (43), who serves as the Head of Intelligence at Polsek Kurima, is currently undergoing treatment at Wamena General Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The incident occurred around 7:00 PM WIT when the two assailants approached the victim’s kiosk, pretending to buy goods. When the victim inquired about what they wanted to buy, one of the assailants suddenly aimed a weapon, suspected to be a homemade firearm, at him. The victim heard a gunshot before trying to evade the attack. Upon realizing he had been shot, the victim immediately turned off the lights and reached for a revolver he had hidden under his pillow.
The victim then fought back by firing shots at the assailant before rushing to a nearby TNI post for protection. Shortly after the incident, personnel from Jayawijaya Sat Intelkam, led by Ipda I Gede Cipta Adi Permana, arrived at Wamena General Hospital to conduct further investigations.
Medical examination results have not revealed any foreign objects in the victim’s wound, so the exact cause of the injury remains undetermined.
The police suspect that the shooter may be affiliated with the Ndugama armed criminal group (KKB), which had previously been detected in Kampung Wulagaima, Kurima District. Preliminary analysis suggests the assailants may have known that Polsek Kurima was unoccupied and recognized the victim as a police officer.
Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., Head of Operations for Cartenz Peace 2025, emphasized that the police will take firm action against armed criminal groups that threaten public safety and police personnel.
“We are studying the identities of the perpetrators in more detail and will continue to pursue them. Patrols and security will be increased in areas prone to disturbances from the KKB,” he said.
The Cartenz Peace Intel Ops Task Force has also implemented strategic measures, including coordinating with the Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum) to track the communication of the perpetrators, who are suspected of having links to the KKB. Additionally, intelligence networks are being utilized to detect the whereabouts of the group.
The Spokesperson for the Cartenz Peace Operations Task Force 2025, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked. He also called on residents who have information about the whereabouts of the KKB to report it to the authorities immediately.
“We ask the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Cooperation between the community and security forces is crucial to maintaining order,” he added.
The police also reminded all personnel in Yahukimo to increase their preparedness and tighten security measures while on duty in the field.
The investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive and capture those responsible for the shooting.
