Jayapura – Rev. Yunus, Chairman of the Weya GKII Enarotali Classis in Paniai, expressed deep concern over the frequent incidents in the Paniai area and several other regencies in Central Papua Province caused by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) or also known as the Free Papua Movement (OPM).
“Their presence (KKB) severely disrupts security and comfort, and many people are living in fear,” stated Rev. Yunus in a press release received by inbrek.com in Jayapura on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
He urged law enforcement, both the military (TNI) and the police (Polri), to take firm action against these security disruptors. Especially now, with the 2024 regional elections (Pilkada) approaching.
“We request protection because KKB frequently causes trouble,” he emphasized.
Rev. Yunus also hopes the community will take an active role in ensuring a peaceful Pilkada by maintaining security.
“The success and safety of the Pilkada depend on the community. Therefore, I personally and as a religious leader, urge everyone to join hands,” Rev. Yunus said.
Regarding the numerous propaganda issues on social media aimed at sabotaging the elections, Rev. Yunus urged the public to be more discerning in receiving such information.
“We are in the digital era, with many false issues spread by irresponsible individuals. Therefore, it is better to cross-check and confirm with the authorities first to avoid being provoked,” he explained.
Rev. Yunus emphasized that the Pilkada is crucial for the region as it serves as a gateway to bring about better changes.
“Let’s ensure the success of the Pilkada for the progress and welfare of all of us in Papua, especially in Central Papua Province,” he urged.
