Jayapura – Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Mathius Fakhiri admitted that the TNI and Polri are still continuing to restore the security situation in Sugapa, the capital of Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua from interference by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).
“It is true that currently recovery efforts are still ongoing and security conditions are gradually returning to being conducive,” said Inspector General Pol. Mathius Fakhiri to ANTARA in Jayapura, Sunday 28 January, quoted from Antara.
It is acknowledged that currently flight services, especially carrying civilian passengers, are still limited to anticipate undesirable events.
“I have also conveyed the latest situation to the Pertamina leadership during a visit to the Papua Regional Police,” said Inspector General Pol. Fakhiri admitted that when it is truly safe, flights will reopen normally.
The attacks carried out by the KKB by shooting at TNI-Polri posts from Friday (19/1) to Thursday (25/1) were still occurring, although not as intense as the first four days.
As a result of the attack carried out by the KKB, a member of Brimob, namely Bripda Alfando Steven Karamoy, died.
“Apart from that, the KKB set fire to residents’ houses,” explained Papua Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Fakhiri.
Papua Regional Development Bank (BPD) Operational Director Isak Samuel Wopari separately admitted that as a result of the action that occurred in Sugapa, staff at the sub-branch office were evacuated via Timika.
“Currently they are still in Nabire and have joined the BPD Papua Branch Office, and it is not certain when they will return to work in Sugapa because they are still waiting for security guarantees,” said Isak Wopari.
