Papua Regional Police Chief: KKB Disruption Will Still Color Kamtibmas in 2024
Jayapura – Papua Police Chief, Inspector General. Pol. Mathius D. Fakhiri, S.I.K., M.H., revealed that currently his party predicts that KKB disruption will still occur in Papua in 2024.
It is true that the security disturbances caused by the KKB are still ‘colouring’ security and social security in the Land of Papua, especially since this year there is a political agenda, namely elections.
“To minimize casualties due to security disturbances caused by the KKB, we hope that the leaders of companies that employ their employees will always coordinate with the security forces in the area,” explained the Papua Police Chief, Tuesday (2/1/24).
The Two Star General revealed that coordination is very necessary so that the authorities know when there are building work activities, especially in areas that are categorized as prone to KKB disturbances.
With coordination, security forces will know whether there are workers or residents in certain areas or areas so they can be monitored.
During 2023, actions carried out by the KKB in the jurisdiction of the Papua Regional Police were recorded 196 times, resulting in 63 people dying, 81 being injured and one person still being held hostage.
It was recorded that 23 TNI soldiers died and 24 people were injured, three Polri members died and seven people were injured, 37 people died and 50 people were injured and one person was still being held hostage.
“One resident who is still being held hostage by KKB is Phillip Mehrtens, who works as a pilot at Susi Air who has been held hostage since February 2023,” he concluded.
