Joint Forces Increase Security in Intan Jaya After Gunfire Contact with KKB

Jayapura – Increased security was implemented again in Titigi District, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, after a firefight occurred between the Cartenz 2023 Peace Operation Task Force and the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) on Wednesday (22/11/2023).

This incident caused one member of the Cartenz Peace Task Force to die in the line of duty, while another member suffered a gunshot wound. Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom, in his confirmation via cell phone, confirmed the incident.

Police Commissioner. Benny said that according to information received from the Head of the Cartenz 2023 Peace Ops Public Relations Task Force, AKBP Dr. Bayu Suseno, S.H., S.I.K., M.M., M.H., the incident started at around 08.20 WIT when a joint team from the Intan Jaya Police together with the Cartenz Peace Task Force carried out a crime scene (TKP) related to a mine incident some time ago in the Titigi District.

“After arriving at the location and carrying out the crime scene investigation, at around 12.28 WIT, the personnel experienced gunfire from the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), which then resulted in a gunfight,” he explained.

Police Commissioner. Benny said that one personnel, Bharada Boniface Jawa, died in the incident, while Bharatu Yohanes Seran suffered a gunshot wound. Both are members of the Cartenz 2023 Peace Operation Action Sub-task Force.

“The bodies and victims of gunshot wounds have been evacuated to Timika District Hospital to receive further medical treatment. “The security forces in Intan Jaya are currently intensively pursuing this group,” added the Head of Public Relations.
