Jayapura – As many as five traditional gold mines were killed by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). The attack that led to murder occurred in Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains, Monday (16/10/2023).
Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri when confirmed confirmed the incident.
“Yes, it is true that I received reports that 5 miners had died. But we are still investigating,” he told media crew in Jayapura, Tuesday (17/10/2023).
The Regional Police Chief explained that the police had not been able to go to the location because the security risk was very high. He said he would involve community leaders to ensure this.
“I ask the Police Chief to first send community leaders, servants of God and the government to check the certainty of the death of the 5 miners. The Police Chief must be careful, not to be lured into the area because the risk is quite high,” he said.
He admitted that his party was currently still investigating the Yahukimo Police Intelligence and community figures.
“We are waiting for the results of investigations from intelligence members and input from the public, then we will manage it carefully and well to carry out law enforcement. So that law enforcement does not spread anywhere,” he said.
To carry out law enforcement, his party admitted that they would immediately discuss with the Cartenz Peace Task Force to see what law enforcement steps would be taken.
“After this I will discuss it with the Cartenz Peace Task Force. I will not tolerate areas where the KKB has always been a nuisance, be it in the Bintang Mountains, Yahukimo, Nduga and Puncak. If there are acts of armed violence, of course we will come forward to carry out enforcement,” said the Regional Police Chief.
