Jayapura – Female activist from Papua, Michelle Kurisi Doga was shot dead in Kimbim, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains, Tuesday (29/8/2023). The shooter is thought to be from the Papuan armed group or KKB.
Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Kombes Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo said, in the narrative of the West Papua National Liberation Army, the Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM) of the Egisu Kodap III Ndugama group it was stated that Michelle Kurisi Doga was an Indonesian state intelligence agent who was the target of the shooting. .
“This murder occurred after he was interrogated about his purpose on his way to Kwijawagi, where he intended to collect data on war refugees from the Nduga community,” said Igantius in his statement, Wednesday (30/8/2023).
Currently, the local police are carrying out further investigation and investigation to verify the veracity of this information.
“We have carried out a thorough investigation to reveal the truth of this information,” said Ignatius.
He appealed to the public to wait for the results of the official investigation before drawing conclusions or taking further action.
“We invite all people in Papua and the wider community not to be provoked by propaganda by news that has not been proven true. “Let us together wait for the results of the investigation which will provide clear clarification regarding this incident,” he said.
The middle-ranking National Police officer said that law enforcement and security were his party’s main priorities in Papua.
“We will continue to work to maintain order and security in the Papua region, and we will ensure that any violations of the law will be dealt with strictly in accordance with applicable law,” said Igantius.
Michelle is a social activist who is widely known by the public because of her concern for the community and children in remote areas of Papua.
