Jayapura – The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) carried out an arson action that destroyed the Ilaga 1 Public High School Library building. The incident occurred on Thursday (17/8/23), in the midst of the momentum of the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
Head of Papua Police Public Relations, Kombes Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom, explained that this incident took place at 13.28 WIT.
“The Ilaga 1 Public High School Library building was burnt down as a result of the arson carried out by the KKB Group led by Titus Murib (KKB Head of Water),” said the Head of Public Relations in a written statement, Friday (18/8/23).
He explained, the news about the fire was first received by the Kopasgat Yonko 468/Sarotama Pos 25 Task Force personnel at Aminggaru Airport. Through the Ilaga TNI-Polri Ilaga communication channel HT Channel, thick smoke could be seen coming from the Ilaga School Complex building.
A quick response from the Ilaga TNI-Polri Joint Security Apparatus was immediately carried out by sending 2 units of four-wheeled vehicles of the Rantis type and Trucks. Arriving at SMA N 1 Ilaga, the personnel immediately conducted a sweep.
“The officers were disturbed by the sound of gun shots coming from behind SMA N 1 Ilaga, although they had fired back, the Joint Security Forces of the TNI-Polri did not give chase because this was indicated to be an inducement from the KKB group,” he explained.
In this incident, the Library of SMA N 1 Ilaga caught fire. Finally, tight security was carried out in the alert category 1 by the TNI-Polri and then carried out to anticipate all forms of security disturbances that might be carried out by the KKB Group.
Not only actively monitoring the situation, the TNI-Polri Security Apparatuses have also taken precautionary measures. They are trying to prevent further security disturbances that might be carried out by KKB Puncak, with the aim of protecting the security of state personnel and assets.
“This arson action is suspected as an attempt by the KKB to disrupt security stability in the Puncak Regency area,” he said.
