Jayapura – The Jayapura Regency General Elections Commission (KPU) office this morning around 06.00 WIT was burnt to the ground. It took more than two hours for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.
This incident resulted in the Regional Archives Office owned by the Jayapura Regency Government and several other office units being burned down.
Head of the Jayapura District Disaster Management Agency, Yan Rumere, said this was the second incident where last week it caught fire due to an electrical short circuit. “There was already a fire, but the employees immediately put it out because it was still office hours. Then it happened again this morning, we don’t know what caused it,” said Yan Rumere, Thursday (17/8/2023) before the ceremony.
“We have done the maximum to extinguish the fire according to the facilities we have,” continued Yan Rumere.
He also explained that there was no water stock at the Jayapura Regent’s Office, this was one of the causes of the difficulty for firefighters to put out the fire.
“Water should be available at the Regent’s Office. Then the hydron at Gunung Merah (Jayapura Regent’s Office) didn’t work. There are hydroponic points built in this office, but they don’t work,” he said.
