Jayapura – Puncak Police are currently investigating the case of gunshots allegedly carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) on Saturday (12/8/2023) at around 10:45 WIT at Trikora Field, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency.
Head of Papua Police Public Relations, Kombes Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom, on Tuesday (15/8/2023) provided an explanation of the incident.
He said that sudden gunshots were heard from the south of Trikora Field, precisely at the Green Color House located to the south of the field. Meanwhile, the Paskibraka members tried to secure themselves at the Puncak Police Headquarters.
“At that time, Paskibraka members were practicing raising and lowering the flag on the field in commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in 2023. TNI-Polri personnel who were around the location immediately returned fire towards the source,” said the Head of Public Relations.
After the situation was safe, Puncak Police personnel returned to Trikora field to identify and check for gunshot marks. A hole was found in the Trikora field stage wall due to the gunfire.
“Luckily, there were no casualties in this incident, either TNI-Polri personnel or Paskibra members. The losses were only material, namely damage to the Trikora field stage wall,” added Kombes Benny.
TNI-Polri security forces in Puncak Regency are currently conducting an investigation into this shooting case.
“Personnel in the report continue to investigate to reveal the motive and identity of the perpetrator. We hope that similar incidents will not happen again,” he said.
The Head of Public Relations also appealed to the local community to remain calm and provide support to the TNI-Polri apparatus in an effort to maintain the Kamtibmas situation in Puncak Regency.
