Jayapura – The Papua Regional Police held a press conference regarding the discovery of a pistol type firearm along with 171 active bullets in a forest in the Jayapura City area on Sunday 23 July 2023.
In a press conference that took place on Monday (24/7), Deputy Chief of Police for Papua, Brigadier General Pol. Ramdani Hidayat, S.H accompanied by the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police Kombes Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom and Danyon D Pioneer of the Papua Police Mobile Brigade Unit, Commissioner Clief Gerald Philipus Duwith gave an explanation of the discovery.
He revealed that the firearm was found hidden in the ground in a forest. However, the exact location was not disclosed as it is still under investigation and development.
Police Brig. Ramdani emphasized that this discovery was the result of cooperation and analysis of intelligence data between the Papua Police and Mobile Brigade. The data sparked an investigation in the jurisdiction area of the Jayapura City Police.
“This weapon was found in a black plastic bag and is a German-made Carl Waltherdindinglum/DO Cal 9 MM type. We also found a magazine and 171 rounds of ammunition,” he said at the Papua Mobile Brigade Headquarters.
In addition, he revealed that the number on the gun had been removed, hampering efforts to determine its origin and owner. However, the police plan to examine the Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) to identify the history of the weapon.
Not to forget, the Deputy Chief of Police for Papua expressed his appreciation from the Head of the Papua Regional Police to the people who played a role in assisting the police in uncovering this case. He emphasized the importance of the active role of the community in maintaining the security situation in the jurisdiction of the Jayapura Police so that it remains conducive.
