Arrest in Yahukimo: Police and Community Leaders Dialogue to Strengthen Security

Jayapura – The Yahukimo Police held a meeting with community leaders led by the Head of Ops for the Yahukimo Police, AKP Alwi Wairooy, S.Hi., M.H accompanied by the Head of the Yahukimo Police Intelligence Unit, Ipda Moh. Ikhsan Dirgantara, S.E, Tuesday (16/5).

The meeting was held after the prosecution and arrest by the Cartez peace ops task force and the Yahukimo Police which occurred on Tuesday around 02.54 Wit at the Obio Complex, Agricultural Road, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains Province.

Present at the meeting were the coordinators of the Ngalik, Hubla and Intan Maya Tribe Regions Leo Giban, Deputy Head of the Ngalik Tribe Lazarus Giban, Head of the Maya Intan Tribe Thomas Mare, Head of the Kurima Tengah Tribe Anton Esema, Head of the Obio District Penius Sigap and Secretary of the Ngalik Tribe Yosua Heluka.

The Head of Ops for the Yahukimo Police, AKP Alwi Wairooy S.Hi., M.H, expressed his gratitude for the presence of community leaders and explained the aims and objectives of this meeting. He is committed to answering all questions and receiving all submissions from community leaders.

During the meeting, Deputy Head of the Ngalik Tribe, Lazarus Giban, expressed his gratitude to the police for their acceptance. He revealed that their arrival was to inquire about the arrests made by officers in the morning. The community hopes to get an explanation from officials regarding this matter.

Furthermore, the Coordinator of the Ngalik Tribe, Leo Giban, said that the community wanted to know whether all those arrested were members of the Ngalik tribe.

“Are they really involved in criminal acts in Yahukimo District. If they are proven to be involved, they ask that the legal process be carried out in accordance with the applicable regulations,” he said.

Responding to this question, the Head of Ops for the Yahukimo Police, AKP Alwi Wairooy S.Hi., M.H, explained that the arrests made that morning were true.

“A total of 22 people have been arrested and are currently under investigation. This arrest was made as a result of the development of several killings that occurred in the last few weeks in the Yahukimo area,” explained the Head of Ops.

He stressed that the arrests were not made indiscriminately. The Head of Ops also said that the police would carry out the legal process properly and fairly.

“If it is proven that the people who have been secured are innocent, they will be released immediately. However, if they are proven guilty, they will be processed according to the applicable law,” he said.

Head of Ops Polres Yahukimo also invited community leaders to support and respect the ongoing legal process. This aims to create a safe and peaceful Yahukimo area for the whole community.

This meeting provided an opportunity for community leaders to raise their concerns and questions regarding the arrests. The police openly listened to and answered questions asked, providing the necessary explanations to provide clarity to the public.

This meeting is expected to strengthen the relationship between the police and community leaders. Good collaboration and cooperation between the two is very important in maintaining security and order in the Yahukimo area.

With this meeting, it is hoped that there will be a better understanding between the police and the community, so as to create effective cooperation in maintaining security and solving crimes that occurred in the Yahukimo area.

On the other hand, the Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Mathius D. Fahiri, S.I.K, emphasized that his staff would seek and prosecute the perpetrators of crimes that resulted in several incidents and had disturbed the Yahukimo community.
