Jayawijaya, Papua Highlands — The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, together with personnel from the Asologaima Police Station and supporting Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel, responded to a shooting incident reported near the Asologaima Police Station in Kimbim Village, Asologaima District, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Highlands, on Monday morning (August 17, 2026). The situation subsequently returned to a safe and controlled condition.
The sound of gunfire was heard at approximately 6:00 a.m. local time, with a series of shots estimated at around 10 rounds. At the time, personnel from the Asologaima Police Station and supporting Brimob personnel were on standby and immediately increased their level of alertness and responded to the reported source of the gunfire.
Personnel from the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 stationed at the Wamena Post then moved to the Asologaima Police Station to provide additional security support. Joint personnel subsequently conducted monitoring and searches around the area to ensure security and anticipate any further disturbances.
Initial checks found no casualties or material damage to the Asologaima Police Station building. Community activities in the surrounding area also returned to normal after the situation was declared safe and under control.
As a follow-up measure, on Tuesday (August 18, 2026), personnel from the Law Enforcement Task Force of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 provided security support during a crime-scene investigation conducted by investigators from the Jayawijaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
The investigative team also interviewed several witnesses and examined an area believed to be the source of the gunfire.
During the crime-scene examination, officers found footprints and 10 spent 5.56-millimeter cartridge casings in the area believed to be the location from which the shots originated. All items found at the scene were secured by identification personnel from the Jayawijaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit for further investigation.
Meanwhile, an examination of the Asologaima Police Station premises found no signs of gunfire on the building or within the surrounding police station compound. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the party responsible for the incident.
Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., said the rapid response by personnel was part of efforts to protect both the public and police personnel.
“We ensured that personnel in the field took swift and measured action after receiving information about the shooting. Our main priority is to ensure the safety of the public and personnel. Based on the inspection, there were no casualties or material losses at the Asologaima Police Station,” said the Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026.
He said the response would not stop at the initial security measures, as authorities were continuing investigative efforts to establish the facts and identify those responsible.
“We are continuing to examine the findings from the crime-scene investigation and statements obtained in the field. We urge the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information, as the investigation is still ongoing,” he added.
Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., said security support during the crime-scene investigation was provided to ensure that the investigative process could proceed safely and smoothly.
“Personnel from the Law Enforcement Task Force of the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026 provided security support during the crime-scene investigation conducted by the Jayawijaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The findings at the scene will form part of the investigation to establish the sequence of events more clearly,” said the Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz 2026.
He added that the presence of security personnel in Asologaima was also intended to maintain a stable situation and provide a sense of security for local residents.
“We continue to prioritize measured actions and do not want the community to feel disturbed. The presence of personnel is aimed at ensuring security while preventing any possible further disturbances,” he said.
Based on initial information obtained from local residents and personnel present at the scene, the area around the residential settlements became quiet again after the gunfire stopped. Community activities subsequently continued as usual.
The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2026, together with the Jayawijaya Police and other relevant security elements, continues to monitor the situation and investigate the incident. Authorities have also encouraged residents to continue their normal activities and immediately report any information that could potentially affect public security to officers.
