CENTRAL PAPUA – The hope for a safe and peaceful Papua is the desire of many, including legal and humanitarian activists. The Director of the Central Papua Legal Aid Foundation (YLBH), Yosep Temorubun, expressed his support for the steps taken by the Operation Carstensz Peaceful Operation Task Force 2026 to maintain security and public order in Papua.
According to Yosep, security is not just a matter of law enforcement, but also concerns the sense of security felt by the community in their daily lives—from children attending school, residents working in their fields, to families carrying out their activities without fear. He believes that the efforts made by authorities through a humanistic approach are an important part of building public trust and creating a more peaceful atmosphere.
“As the Director of the Central Papua Legal Aid Foundation (YLBH) for Papua, I extend my support to the Carstensz 2026 Peace Operation Task Force in maintaining security and order in Papua. The humane approach taken by the authorities is an important step in ensuring Papua truly becomes a land of peace for its people,” said Yosep.
As an institution that frequently assists the community in various legal matters, Yosep stated that Papuans have the same right to live in safety and be protected from violence. Therefore, he believes that professional and just law enforcement is essential to protect citizens from various actions that could threaten their safety.
“Law enforcement must be carried out firmly, but remain fair. This is crucial so that the Papuan people feel protected and can carry out their daily activities without the shadow of the threat of violence,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation for the steps taken by the authorities, particularly the Carstensz 2026 Peace Operation Task Force, in uncovering various cases deemed to be disruptive to security and stability in Papua. Yosep assessed that the authorities’ success in apprehending several perpetrators and disrupting the distribution of logistics and ammunition suspected of being used by armed criminal groups is a crucial effort to suppress the potential for violence in the region.
“We appreciate the success of the Carstensz Peace Operation Task Force in prosecuting perpetrators of crimes that disrupt security stability and in disrupting the distribution of logistics and ammunition suspected of being used by armed criminal groups,” he added.
Furthermore, Yosep expressed his hope that all parties, including security forces, community leaders, and Papuan residents, would continue to strengthen communication and cooperation to create a safe and conducive situation. He also urged the community to maintain unity and not be easily influenced by unverified information.
According to him, peace in Papua is not only built through security, but also through mutual trust and concern among fellow citizens.
“Papua is our shared home. If we protect and work together, peace in this land will not only be a hope, but something we can truly experience together,” he concluded.
