NABIRE – A spirit of togetherness and compassion has filled the holy month of Ramadan in Nabire Regency. Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (Baznas) Nabire distributed 250 “Ramadan Happiness Packages” to Zakat Collection Units (UPZ) as a form of appreciation and a way to share joy with communities in need.
Chairman of Baznas Nabire, Soleman Letsoin, explained that the distribution of the Ramadan packages is part of Baznas’ social programs during Ramadan 1447 Hijri. The initiative aims to strengthen social solidarity and bring happiness to communities observing the fasting month.
In addition to the Ramadan packages, Baznas Nabire also distributed 466 sacks of zakat fitrah rice—equivalent to around 2.3 tons—to mustahik (eligible beneficiaries) across several areas. The assistance is expected to help meet the community’s food needs during the holy month.
Soleman expressed his appreciation to all UPZ members who have consistently supported Baznas in collecting and distributing zakat to those in need. According to him, UPZ plays an important role as the closest link between muzaki (zakat donors) and beneficiaries at the village level, as well as within institutions, organizations, and companies.
“UPZ are not just zakat collectors; they are bridges of kindness who help ensure that the benefits of zakat are truly felt by the community,” he said.
Part of the assistance was also distributed to several regencies in Central Papua, including Dogiyai, Deiyai, and Paniai. Meanwhile, in Nabire, the zakat fitrah rice was provided to Islamic boarding schools, madrasahs, teachers, caretakers of boarding schools, and mustahik in Kampung Zakat Manunggal Jaya, Makimi District.
Vice Chairperson I of Baznas Nabire, Zubaidah, stated that the program is a routine Ramadan activity organized by Baznas each year to help ease the burden on communities while strengthening the spirit of togetherness.
“Ramadan is the perfect time to share. Through this program, we hope the recipients can feel happiness and blessings while observing the fasting month,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nabire Deputy Regent Burhanuddin Pawennari noted that the initiative serves as an important moment to strengthen social solidarity within the community. He emphasized that the spirit of sharing and mutual cooperation is a noble value that must continue to be preserved.
“This assistance is not only about providing packages, but also about togetherness, compassion, and the spirit of helping one another within the community,” he said.
He expressed hope that the program will bring real benefits to the recipients and create a sense of happiness among the people of Nabire as they observe Ramadan with peace and gratitude.
