Jayapura (ANTARA) – PT PLN (Persero) is providing free electricity connections to 35 underprivileged families across Papua through the Light Up the Dream program during Ramadan 2026.

Mohammad Farizki Widodo, Assistant Manager of Commerce and Manager of the Customer Service Implementation Unit of PT PLN (Persero) Jayapura, stated in Jayapura on Wednesday that the program is a social initiative of PLN employees through voluntary donations to help underprivileged communities who do not yet have independent electricity connections.

“The Light Up the Dream program will be implemented in March 2025, with a total of 35 homes in the PLN UP3 working area in Papua,” he said.

According to Farizki, the 35 beneficiary customers are spread across UP3 Jayapura (six customers), UP3 Sorong (six customers), UP3 Merauke (five customers), UP3 Manokwari (five customers), UP3 Nabire (three customers), UP3 Biak (three customers), UP3 Timika (three customers), UP3 Fakfak (two customers), and UP3 Wamena (two customers).

“We hope that this assistance will ease the burden on underprivileged families and improve their economic well-being,” he said.

He explained that the recipient criteria are households that do not have their own electricity connection or are still relying on electricity from neighbors or parents, making them the program’s top priority.

“As of March 2026, the number of beneficiaries of this program has reached 2,966 customers throughout Papua,” he added.

Meanwhile, Fitri Kmur, one of the beneficiaries of the Light Up Dreams Program in Jayapura, said she has been greatly helped by the program, having relied on her brother-in-law for electricity for 10 years.

“We’re having difficulty meeting our daily needs, so we’re getting 900 VA electricity and 100,000 rupiah in tokens,” he said.
