The Jayawijaya Regency Government in the Papua Mountains will tighten entry points, both by air and land, to ensure security stability.

This is being done to ensure that residents arriving in Jayawijaya Regency have identification such as an electronic ID card (e-KTP).

Jayawijaya Deputy Regent Ronny Elopere, in a written statement in Wamena on Sunday, emphasized that the majority of residents arriving in Jayawijaya Regency do not have e-KTPs, thus preventing them from being controlled.

“Therefore, going forward, we will tighten entry points to Jayawijaya, both by air and land, so that arriving residents can be controlled by having e-KTPs,” he said.

According to him, the main goal of tightening entry points to Jayawijaya is to encourage residents to obtain e-KTPs.

“We are tightening entry controls so that residents coming to this area have clear identification documents, so their presence can be controlled by the government through regional government agencies or technical OPDs,” he said.

He explained that during raids, he found many residents without clear identification documents.

“Many illegal residents still lack identification, and they come to Jayawijaya to sell alcoholic beverages, drugs, betel nuts, and other things that can harm themselves and others,” he said.

He ordered the Population and Civil Registration Office and the Jayawijaya Regency Public Order Agency to check passengers entering Wamena Airport, as well as land vehicles traveling to and from Wamena.

“The government has a duty to control and supervise all its citizens to ensure the security and comfort of this region going forward,” he said.
