JAYAPURA – Deputy Governor of Papua, Aryoko Rumaropen, officially released the first export of 17.8 tons of processed tuna products to the United States through the Port of Jayapura, Tuesday.
The release of the export has become an important momentum for the Papuan marine and fisheries sector, as well as marking that the fishery results of fishermen and local businessmen have been able to meet international quality and food safety standards.
“This export release is an important milestone for the progress of the marine and fisheries sector in Papua. This proves that our products are able to compete and be accepted in the global market,” said Aryoko after the release procession.
According to him, the shipment with a volume of 17.8 tons not only shows the readiness of the fisheries processing industry in Papua, but also provides significant economic value for the region. The marine and fisheries sector, he continued, is one of the main forces in driving Papua’s economic growth.
“The Papuan Sea is not only a source of people’s life, but also a source of economic power that is able to penetrate the world market,” he said.
The Deputy Governor added, the success of this export is the result of collaboration between local governments, business actors, and fishermen who continue to improve the quality of production and fisheries business governance. The Papua Provincial Government is committed to continue to encourage the downstream of fishery products so that they have added value before they are marketed abroad.
In addition to opening international market access, this first export is also expected to be able to improve the welfare of fishermen, expand employment, and strengthen Papua’s image as one of the leading fishery commodity producing areas in Indonesia.
In the future, the Papua Provincial Government targets an increase in export volume and the expansion of the destination market, so that Papua’s marine potential can be utilized optimally and sustainably for the welfare of the community.
