Yahukimo – The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz, in coordination with the Yahukimo District Police, is intensifying its investigation into the killing of two civilian gaharu collectors who were attacked by a group of Unknown Perpetrators (OTK) at a camp in Bor Village, Sumo District, Yahukimo Regency, on Saturday (29 November 2025) at around 18:05 WIT.

Victim Identities

Deceased:

  • Sugianto (43)
  • Hardiyanto (39)

Survivors:

  • Nur Asyah (wife of Sugianto)
  • Alias (relative of Nur Asyah)

A witness identified as E reported that he received a phone call from Alias at exactly 18:05 WIT. Alias informed him that the camp where they had lived and worked for the past five years had been attacked by a group of unknown individuals.

According to Alias, the assault occurred earlier in the afternoon when the group suddenly arrived at the camp and immediately launched an attack using sharp weapons. Although the camp residents attempted to flee, two of them were unable to escape and ultimately lost their lives.

At around 21:30 WIT, Alias contacted witness E again, stating that the bodies of the two deceased victims were being evacuated by fiber boat to Agats City, Asmat Regency—a journey estimated to take approximately seven hours.

All four victims are members of the same family residing in Agats City. In addition to collecting gaharu, the family also operated a small grocery kiosk in Bor Village. As of now, all victims—both survivors and the deceased—have been successfully evacuated to Agats.

The Head of Peace Operation Cartenz, Brigadier General of Police (Brigjen Pol.) Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., stated that personnel had been deployed to thoroughly examine all aspects of the incident.

“Our personnel have carried out a series of investigative measures, including interviewing witnesses, documenting the crime scene, and expanding information related to the perpetrators and their possible motives. We are committed to uncovering this case and ensuring the safety of the community,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Commissioner of Police (Kombes Pol.) Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., Deputy Head of Peace Operation Cartenz, emphasized the strengthening of security in vulnerable areas.

“Patrols and monitoring of community movement routes have been intensified. We continue to coordinate closely with the Yahukimo District Police to maintain stability and security following the incident,” he stated.

The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz also expressed its deepest condolences for the loss of the two victims. The task force hopes the grieving family will be granted strength and resilience, and reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the perpetrators until they are arrested and brought to justice.
